The new server farm
Higher Sites is dedicated to continuously improving our service offering. Over the past two years spam has become a huge problem for all ISPs, and we felt the time had come to redesign our email servers from scratch. Whilst we were at it, we also investigated ways we can improve other aspects of our website and email hosting service. We took the decision to make a significant investment into new servers and locate them in our own locked rack facility within a state of the art data centre. And, whilst this has significantly increased our server operating costs, we decided to give these improved services to our clients at no extra cost.

Multiple redundant servers
In designing our new server farm we decided to build in replication and redundancy - basically, we double up on everything. If our lead web server goes down for any reason, we have an identical backup ready to take its place. The servers synchronise with each other throughout the day to ensure that both machines are up-to-date. Likewise, our dedicated database server replicates all data to a seperate backup server in real time. You change the data on one server, and it changes immediately on the other. All the machines with their website files, databases and email data are backed up every night in the data centre, and then remotely backed up again to our UK and Spain offices. We also keep off site backups.
